War: April 24th, 2005: Cannes screenings announced
The most interesting of the titles to pop up for Cannes screenings is Beg!,
the 1994 horror-thriller from director Robert Gordon, with a script that was
based on a play by David Glass. As far as I can tell, the film was very well
received when it made the festival run at festivals like Sundance, Fantasporto
Film Festival, and Edinburgh Film Festival (where it won "best of the festival")
but never seemed to get North American distribution. It looks like Troma
will finally be filling in the void for this overlooked film, which sounds like
it's going to be quite a treat.

Tromatic Titles At Mini-Cinema Film Festival
News Archives
FilmThreat.com has just run an interview with Bloodsucking Freaks and The GI Executioner director Joel M. Reed. Among the topics discussed is a possible Bloodsucking Freaks II and some interesting behind-the-scenes stories. This is DEFINITELY A MUST READ!
Despite recent reports that Florida was in consideration for the next Troma in-house film, Poultrygeist: Attack of the Chicken Zombies, a recent post from Lloyd Kaufman on MySpace.com stated that Buffalo, New York seems like the most likely shooting location. I guess all we can do is wait and see...
Well, Troma has announced some great news about Poultrygeist today, which we've
been informed is now fully titled Poultrygeist: Attack of the Chicken Zombies.
Lloyd used this title when he pitched the film on G4's Attack of the Show.
First off, regarding where the film will be shot at, according to an article at
floridatoday.com, the film is in negotiations to be shot in Brevard County,
Florida. Whether this actually goes through or not is left to be seen.
It was also stated that Lemmy from Motorhead will indeed be making an
appearance. This will mark his fourth Troma appearance in a row, starting with
Tromeo & Juliet. There's also even more concept art online now at
the official
Poultrygeist website.
Sky Movies, a UK-based movie network, will be playing seven Troma classics in the upcoming week:

Monday May 9th at 03:30 on Sky Movies 2
Wednesday May 4th at 03:35 on Sky Movies 2
Friday May 6th at 02:40 on Sky Movies 2
Wednesday 04 May at 00:25 on Sky Movies 6
Sunday 08 May at 00:45 on Sky Movies 8
Monday May 9th 03:15 Sky Movies 8
Wednesday May 4th at 02:35 on Sky Movies 6
Thursday May 5th at 03:20 on Sky Movies 2
The films that will be premiering during Troma’s outing to this year’s Cannes
Film Festival. First off will be the long-awaited Parts of the Family,
a film from producer James Dessert (Rabid Grannies; Maniac Nurses Find
Ecstacy) which has already been released in a few foreign territories.
However, the new Troma release will feature new scenes with Debbie Rochon, Ron
Jeremy, and Stan Lee. Also premiering is Devoured: The Legend of Alferd
Packer, another telling of the tale of the Colorado cannibal from director
Mark Workman. However, do note that it's a totally different film than the
1980 drama that was referenced in Cannibal! The Musical.
In the first update to Troma.com's Lloyd's Roids page in 10 months, Lloyd and Andy Deemer have posted an essay called Are the Oscars Losing Their Importance?. In the essay, Lloyd discusses the decline in viewership of the Oscars, how the award ceremony has gone from being accessable to independent filmmakers (using the Academy Award nominee Joe, which Lloyd was production manager on) to only being accessable to films that have huge advertising budgets. Lloyd and Andy also list the films that they would have chose to nominate, including Jonathan Caouette's Tarnation, Shaun of the Dead, Fahrenheit 9/11, and BAADASSSSS!.
According to MovieHole.net, Lloyd Kaufman is rumored to be making a guest appearance in James Gunn's directorial debut, Slither. The film stars Brenda James, Don Thompson, Haig Sutherland, and Jennifer Copping. The film is set in a small town that is taken over by an alien plague, turning residents into zombies and all forms of mutant monsters and will be released by Universal Pictures.
It looks like MTV2 will be relauncing soon with a new look as they try to compete with the more-popular Fuse network, part of which will contain clips of Troma movies! They will weave these clips(which MTV2's head of marketing, Tina Exharos refers to as "little pieces of art" and I think we all agree) throughout their new look and feel. Along with clips from Troma, they will be adding irreverent humor and sexual innuendo. What does your humble webmaster think? Troma clips will be great on a major network, but the problem is: will they tell anyone where these clips came from? Regardless, MTV's new Tromatized look will debut on Monday.
Lloyd Kaufman will be featured on the TechTV show The Screen Savers on February 4th at 7pm EST (4pm Pacific). We're not too sure what Lloyd will be speaking about, but Pauly Shore and musical guest Supergroove will be on the show as well. More info can be found at TechTV's website.
Troma's been hard at work on the companion DVD to Lloyd's book Make Your Own Damn Movie! and it's finally going to be released sometime in late March or early April and a television commercial has been aired on Fuse (which can be viewed online here). Also, pre-orders are now being taken at the studio store and there's a poll on the forums to see what version of the cover art the fans would rather see.
Looks like the Troma DVD release of Phillipe Mora's Mad Dog Morgan will now contain new interviews with not only Mora, but also star Dennis Hopper. The DVD will be released on March 29th.
Okay, this is more of a shameless piece of self promotion than a news article, but you can catch a glimpse of Lloyd Kaufman's appearance in my film Raising The Stakes in the trailer that is now availible. Either visit the official site or go directly to the media page to check it out. The film will be premiering on February 12th during the Mini-Cinema Film Festival in Fairmont, WV at 7:30pm.
Troma is currently looking for a fast food establishment to shoot Poultrygeist in! What they are hoping to find is a restaurant that is no longer in business, but still has the fixtures that could be redressed as "The Ameican Chicken Bunker", the fictional restaurant chain the script focuses on. Though there will be a lot of blood and special effects in use, the Troma Team will restore the restaurant to its original condition after shooting. Troma has practically no money availible to find this location, but the owner will recieve credit and possibly even an onscreen appearance as a background actor person!
If you know of a location, please contact the owner and make sure they are fully aware of the minimal money availible for the use of their establishment before contacting Troma. If you have already done so, please send an e-mail to the Poultrygeist production office.
Troma is also looking for stock footage of the life of a chicken, including the egg birth, the horrible living conditions of the pens,
the mass slaughtering and the plucking. If you know where to track this down, send an e-mail to the Poultrygeist production office.
The Troma online store has just had a major facelift and revamp! The new store is lot more user friendly and also allows you to post a review of your favorite (or least-favorite) Troma titles!
Go-Kart Films, the new division of the punk rock record company of the same name, has released two films on DVD that were directed by Troma alums today. Ding-A-Ling-Less, the comedy from Sergio Lapel's Drawing Blood director Onur Tukel and Operation Midnight Climax, which stars and was co-directed (with Gadi Harel) by Tromeo himself, Will Keenan.
Ding-A-Ling-Less follows the trials and tribulations of a birdhouse builder who has been deprived of a penis and is also known as Re-Membering Jack. You can read a review over at Tromatized's own Post Tromatic Shlock. Operation Midnight Climax was not only directed by Troma alums Will Keenan and Gadi Harel, but also features Trent Haaga, Heidi Sjursen, Jane Jensen, and The State and Wet Hot American Summer's Michael Showalter.
Journalist Mike Watt has just written a really great article for FilmThreat called "The Geeks Shall Inherit The Earth: Troma In The New Millenium." The article covers Troma's progression and degression throughout the years and gives plenty of commentary on the outcome of Troma's future. Check it out here!

It appears that Troma now owns the rights to The Children, Max Kalmanowicz's 1980 horror film about radioactive gas turning a bus full of children into murderous zombies. However, the current print that is in their possession is in bad shape and Troma is looking for a film collector with a 35mm release print that can be referenced for the upcoming DVD release. If you possess a print, please send an e-mail to Troma.
Lloyd Kaufman's Make Your Own Damn Movie Master Class will be coming to the University of Pittsburgh on November 19th at 5:30pm. The class will feature special guest moderator Carl Kurlander (co-author of St. Elmo's Fire and a producer on Saved by the Bell: The New Class) and is sponsored by the student organization Pitt in Hollywood. Your humble webmaster should be at this event...
It looks like Troma now has a street team on the ever-popular MySpace.com. Click here to join!
The long-awaited Troma release, Parts of the Family is reportedly going to be finished with post-production in February. The film was produced by James Dessert (Rabid Grannies) and the Troma Team has shot many additional scenes for the final release. The DVD is expected to be released sometime in Summer 2005.
The latest script rewrite of the upcoming Troma in-house production Poultrygeist has been completed and shooting is still being prepared for sometime in 2005. Casting is expected to begin in the spring.
Congratulations to Troma superstar Debbie Rochon for being inducted into the B-Movie Hall Of Fame! For all of you Troma trivia buffs, Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz were among the first nominees when Sub Rosa Studios started the hall of fame in 1998.

It appears that Hollywood Video stores have recalled all of their copies of Tales From The Crapper due to customer complaints about the cover art (supposidly the film synopsis was what caused it). Whether Troma will release a version of the DVD that is Hollywood Video approved is unknown. Regardless, Tromatized! will soon be running a letter writing campaign to Hollywood Video to try and change their minds.
Well, it looks like another company has signed on to do Toxic Avenger action figures, but this time, they'll be much smaller than expected. Shocker Toys has licensed characters from The Toxic Avenger series for their "Shockini" line of toys. These action figures will be about 3 inches tall with a lot of articulation. Shocker has stopped by the Message Board to ask what else the fans want to see with the toys (voice your opinion here). How this will effect SOTA Toys's Toxie action figure is unknown.
Troma announced two new pickups recently: Pure Blood, which is a South African vampire movie by director Ken Kaplan and a comedy titled Space Daze that features Corey Feldman. More info will be posted when it's availible.
According to the Troma.com, Tiffany Shepis and her husband Michael recently gave birth to her first child, Mia Alexandria. Congratulations to Tiffany and Michael and I really wish I had more information to post on the subject.
Troma.com has provided us with a preview of the upcoming Toxic Avenger novel, written by Lloyd Kaufman and Adam Jahnke. According to the introduction by Lloyd, the novel will be what a big budget version of the original film would be like. It also seems that there is not a publisher lined up for the novel, so it's up to Troma fans to let publishers know we want to see it on the shelves. Click here to check out the preview!
It looks like Troma is working on a 21st Anniversary Special Edition DVD of the classic and most famous Troma movie of all time, The Toxic Avenger! To mark the occasion, Troma is asking the fans of Toxie to videotape how the film impacted their lives! Head over to troma.com to get the full scoop.

Troma will be shooting a commercial for the upcoming Make Your Own Damn Movie DVD box set that will be airing on television. Currently, casting is looking for one "beautiful leading female", lovely Tromettes, and extras for the commercial that will be shot on September 2nd, 2004. No nudity is required and this may lead to opportunities in future Troma productions. If you're interested, send a photo to casting@troma.com.
Ever wanted one of those "I Love The Monster Hero" t-shirts that the Tromaville citizens wear in The Toxic Avenger? Well, Troma has finally heard the fans cries and started selling the shirt exclusively at the Tromaville Maul.
Troma will be releasing a new film soon that's unlike anything they've ever done before. Dancing Into The Future is a Lloyd Kaufman produced documentary on the National Dance Institute(as featured in Troma's classic "Radiation March" short) directed by John G. Avildsen and his son Anthony Avildsen. There's a few clips online at Troma.com and it appears Lloyd's daughter (and Terror Firmer star) Charlotte Kaufman will be featured in the film, as she is an NDI dancer.
At Horrorfind Weekend IV, I swung by the table that The Horror Channel had set up and talked to them a bit about Troma's involvement with the first horror movie channel in America. They claimed that Troma movies will indeed be shown on the network when it launches in October and a clip from Terror Firmer was featured in the preview they kept playing on loop. So swing by The Horror Channel's official website to find out how you can get your cable provider to pick it up this October.
You can now pre-order the Tales From The Crapper DVD from Troma.com for $19.95.
It's been reported a major retailer that usually carries Troma DVDs has refused to pickup Tales From The Crapper for sale online or in their stores. Troma did not announce what retailer this was, but does state that fans may have some problems getting Crapper outside of the Troma online store.
Reel.com recently did an interview with Lloyd Kaufman, which you can check out here. Not much new info has been added, but Lloyd does touch on his time at Yale with George W. Bush and John Kerry, IFC's hatred of Troma (despite the director of IFC being a Troma supporter), and Takashi Miike's influence on the upcoming Troma production Poultrygeist.
The extras for the Tales From The Crapper DVD, which will be availible on September 28th, have been announced. Here's what you can expect:
Okay, this is more of a self-promotion than real Troma news, but oh well. I organize my own film festival here in Fairmont, WV and the next event, taking place August 6th-7th will be featuring a good amount of Tromatic titles. Among the Troma related titles are: Unspeakable director Chad Ferrin's latest film The Ghouls, Harry Knuckles and The Siege Of The Leopard Lady, Dead Naked Feet from Kiss Of Death Productions (the creators of the upcoming Troma release Meat For Satan's Icebox), Dogpile95 film In Defense of Lemmings that features a cameo from Lloyd Kaufman, The Red's Breakfast Experience, and the hysterical new film from Onur Tukel, the writer/director of Drawing Blood, Re-Membering Jack.
