I often mention a video store I frequent that's cheap and has a lot of old obscure stuff. That's because it's the same store I got my first tastes of The Toxic Avenger and Class of Nuke Em High which later transformed me into the Tromite I now am. I sometimes come across titles there that I suddenly discover are Troma titles. I get excited at first and then I start to watch the movie and I see something like Splatter University or Feelin' Up. I got the same with Dark Side Of Midnight, a "killer on the loose" thriller that feels like it was made for cops by cops.
The film follows Chief Cooper, a small town police chief whose town is being terrorized by a serial killer. He's already killed a young girl and six year old boy, but the town's mayor doesn't want this word getting out, since it'd ruin his chances to have a university built in the town. However, a crimnologist named Brock Johnson(played by director Wes Olson) is called in to help out the case and links it to a serial killer named The Creeper.
The Dark Side Of Midnight is one of the most incompetent films I've ever seen. The acting is atrocious, with dialouge that's even worse. There's practically no music, except for over the main credits. The script is so dull and stupid that it's mindnumbing. This production feels like it was made by actual police officers for some reason. Sort of like a way to show off to fellow officers, but I don't know who would show off a film like this. The film's so amateurish that it can't help but be laughed at.
Overall, The Dark Side Of Midnight is a hard film to recommend to anyone. It might be good for a laugh or two, but overall, it's dumb, amateurish, and overall unsatisfying. However, it doesn't reach the painful experience Splatter University was.
