Decampitated is a film that seems to divide most Troma fans. Some think it's brilliant and some think it's abhorable. I went into the film knowing this full well and came out considering it to be a little bit of both.
A group of friends head up to the woods for a weekend of camping at Decamp Acres, where a legendary murderer once lives. When they arrive, they find themselves lost in the woods and set up a tent when they can't find their cabin. As expected, a masked murder comes out and begins to slice and dice the campers. However, in a bizarre twist, none of the characters ever seem to die. When they get an arm cut off, lose an ear to an oversized fishing lure, drained of their internal juices with a tap(!), or impaled on a machete, they still continue to live. This gives Decampitated a unique, wacky, cartoon-like style.
However, the film's also plagued with hideously bad jokes, even worse recurring jokes, and a mostly amateur cast. While the cast does the best job they can with the material(especially Bethany Lavoo, who despite having some of the worst lines in the film, was still able to deliver them fairly well), they still can not save the film from reaching groaning depths of unfunny humor. It's unfortunate that the film couldn't keep up with the hilarious pre-credit sequence, which gave me a damned good laugh upon first viewing. One really good aspect of the film is the soundtrack, which includes bands like H20 and Hatebreed.
Decampitated is watchable, but I would not recommend it as a purchase unless you know what you're getting into or you rented the film and enjoyed it.
