Review: Dog Years
Reviewed by: Tyler Baptist

An action packed tale of a man, his dog, and a whole lot of guns! The story revolves around Wally Newton, a non-racist skinhead, and his dog Neechee. Wally loves his dog, he and the dalmation are the best of friends. One day, while walking Neechee, Wally walks into the middle of a drug deal gone bad. One of the thugs kicks Wally's dog, so in return Wally punches his lights out. Cops appear around the corner and arrest Wally, thinking he is in on the deal. Durante, one of the head gansters, dognaps Wally's dog Neechee in return for Wally locating his missing drug money. Duratne promises Wally that he will be returned with his dog upon the swap of the money.

Robert Loomis wrote, edited, produced, and directed this low-budget 16mm movie. This is one of my favorite movies, if not the top fav, of all the movies that Troma has picked up to distribute. The film has a great feel to it and the acting is superb for being a low-budget film. The thing that really made this movie stand out was its pace, there is no slow scene, every scene is fast paced no matter if it's an action scene or a dramtic scene. The cinematograpy, also by Loomis, is very beautiful. The performances that are top notch in this film are from R. Michael Caincross who plays Wally Newton and from the dog Neitzche who plays, as you guessed, Neechee. This dog can really act.

For those of you who are fans of Tarantino, you especially will enjoy this movie. It has a very Pulp Fiction-esque and True Romance-y feel to it. This film has it all; action, drama, and comedy. The scene where the gangester try to give Wally's dog back in return for the money is hillarious. Neechee has ran away to find his owner, so some of the thugs had to go and find him. So what do they do when they can't find the dog? They go out and steal a dog that doesn't look anything like Neechee and spraypaint the dog to 'look' like Neechee. It's a really funny scene, and a great movie moment. Go out and find this movie; rent it, buy it, just see it. A true Troma classic!
