When I first saw the title for the movie Frost Biter, I couldn’t wait to see it, in hopes that it was a really ‘cool’ monster movie about a monster that freezes people… boy was I wrong. It was still a pretty good flick though. Frost Biter: Wrath of The Wendigo is a movie, that opens up with an old man, writing about his encounter on a small hunting island, “Manitou Island”, 100 years ago, with the Wendigo, a demonic snow monster, and succeeded in defeating it. To make sure that this evil being would never return, the hunter set up a circle of sticks, topped with the skulls of the Wendigo’s past victims. If the circle were broken, then the Wendigo and its powers would be unleashed.
Shortly after the opening, we see two hunters; Ron Asheton, the former guitarist and bassist for Iggy Pop and the Stooges plays the one named Gary. They come across the old man’s circle of skulls. The old man asks them to leave. Gary shoots one of the skulls, and the old man. Now the fun begins! The Wendigo is back, and beheads Gary’s hunting partner (although we don’t see it happen), and places his head on a stick! As Gary runs to find help, the old man’s sprit visits a teenage girl, Sandy, and tells her that se is the new chosen one, and must use her powers to defeat the Wendigo.
Gary manages to find a hunting cabin with several hunters. They don’t believe that a monster is after them, but some pretty funny things start happening in that cabin. Leo, one of the hunters starts cooking chili, and loses his right hand to a “Chili Monster!” Another is set on fire after drinking the evil chili. Another funny scene is when Miss October, the model from their Babe magazine enters the cabin, topless. Only to transform into a wisecracking monster! As this happens, Sandy, the new chosen one charters a small plane to Manitou Island. As the plane nears the island, a pterodactyl-like monster attacks, and bites off the pilot’s head! Sandy manages to land the plane, into a pile of snow. Will Sandy be able to defeat the Wendigo? What becomes of the hunters? Watch Frost Biter: Wrath of The Wendigo to find out!
One of the funny things about this film is the music. Whenever the hunters are attacked, a funny rock song starts playing. Like when they are attacked by the “Chili Monsters”, you constantly hear, “Chileeeeeeeeee!… Chileeeee!”. It’s a horror film with a lot of humor. One thing that really amazed me was the Wendigo itself. It is a giant, bluish-white centaurian creature, with a skull-like head, with moose antlers. One thing that many people might not like about this movie is the fact that the color on screen is usually bluish, due to the cold, dark climate. I think that that this makes the movie a bit scarier, though it didn’t scare me. So in all, this movie isn’t one that everyone will enjoy, so renting it-if you can find it- might be the best idea.
