Review: Killer Nerd

Killer Nerd, the first in Troma's nerd trilogy (which also includes Bride Of Killer Nerd and the rare Nerds Of A Feather) is very good. This is a definite must for gorehounds of all ages. The story concerns a man named Harold Kunkle, the nerd of the title. He is picked on by the neighborhood bullies, his crush at work won't go out with him, and his stepfather routinely beat him as a child. As you can see, Harold is a pretty fucked up individual. Harold then sees a commercial on T.V for "Slick Dicks" cassettes on how to be cool. He orders them and follows the steps on them, providing true hilarity. He goes to a nightclub and is picked up by two tough chicks, who then take him to an abandoned warehouse. Once there, the bullies that picked on him beat him up and put a beer box on his head, thus triggering his murderous rampage.

Killer Nerd, is a black comedy masterpiece from cult director Wayne A. Harold. Although slow at the beggining and throughout most of the film, when it's funnny and/or gory, its great. While obviously cheap and poorly filmed, Killer Nerd is a great film and a great addition to the collection of second-string Troma classics.
