Class of Nuke Em High Part 2: Subhumanoid Meltdown starts off with a quick recap of the first entry, then explains that the company that owned the nuclear power plant that caused the events in the first film has built the Tromaville Institute of Technology to make up for their earlier fault. However, the school was built right inside of the nuclear center. Inside, Professor Holt(Lisa Gaye) is trying to create subhumanoids, beings with no emotions, to perform the most menial tasks. But when the subhumanoids suddenly begin melting down, it's up to Roger Smith(Brick Bronsky), the school's unpopular newspaper reporter, to save the school.
I had heard mixed reviews of the Class of Nuke Em High sequels, however, I found this one to be quite enjoyable. The main fault of the film comes from the undoubtably silly jokes and gags that dominated several Troma films from that era (see The Toxic Avenger parts 2 and 3 for examples). However, the film is saved by the trademark quirkiness of Troma films and the performance of Lisa Gaye as Professor Holt. It's obvious why she's become the Troma superstar that she is today.
However, there are several terrible actor persons in this film. It's quite obvious why Brick Bronsky ended up in The Quest with Jean Claude Van Damme after his performance in this film, considering their equal amount of acting ability (then again, Bronsky didn't scream the word "NO!" once in Subhumanoid Meltdown, so maybe he's superior). The character of Dean Okra was written as having a high-pitched voice, which gets EXTREMELY ANNOYING.
Sadly, Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz were much too busy working on the big budget Toxic Crusaders movie(that was never made) to direct this entry, but Eric Louzil does a fine job. If you listen to the end monologue(which continues after the credits), you can hear Lloyd's voice make a cameo.
Anyway, if you're a Troma fan, you should definately pick this up. But do remember, it seems to be a love-it-or-hate-it-affair.
