Pigs, directed by Marc Lawrence, was made in the 1970’s. I don’t know when Troma picked this movie up, but it sure was a stroke of genius. Let me just say, that after first watching this film, I found it to be stupid, amateurish, and boring. Frankly, I thought it would be more entertaining to have a garbage disposal have it’s way with my penis. However, after a second watch, I found that it’s quite an enjoyable film, despite it’s many flaws. I mean after all, flaws and continuity problems are part of the reason Troma movies are fun to watch.
Anyway, on with the story. The film concerns Lynn, a female nutcase who gets raped by her father. Then she stabs him to death (which, in my view provides the best newspaper headline ever put on film, "DAD RAPES DAUGHTER, DIES OF KNIFE WOUND.) Anyway, Lynn become institutionalized and then escapes to Hooterville. There, she meets Zambrini, a restaurant owner, who just happens to keep flesh-eating pigs in the back. Zambrini then gives Lynn the job of killing people so that the pigs can eat (Zambrini is a pretty scary looking guy, he’s a really creepy bald guy, shudder*). This is the entire plot. There is A LOT of gore in this film to keep a Tromite happy for an hour and a half. No sex though, odd. As I said, Lynn is a complete nut. Here’s an example, about 30 minutes into the film, Lynn goes to a payphone to call her father, WHO IS DEAD, then has a conversation with him, telling him that she "isn’t ready to go yet." She does this several times, each time making me angrier. There is also a old hag named Ms. Macy, who just continues throughout the film to complain about the pigs squeals, very annoying. Oh, and the sheriff, who is a complete moron.
The film really has some of the crappiest editing of any Troma movie I’ve ever seen. It also has probably THE crappiest music in a Troma movie. I really thought nothing could top some of the music in Combat Shock (particularly the music on the coming distractions section of the DVD, other than that a great film) Even with all these flaws, it’s still a fun film to watch. Like CAPTURE OF BIGFOOT, another 70’s Troma release, its more fun to watch with friends. Overall, after a second watch, this film is an ok horror/comedy.
