Much like other Troma fans, I too checked out the "trailer" for this film on Troma.com a while back, which was essentially footage of a man committing suicide by injecting air into his veins and was both intrigued and confused. Was this going to be a film full of people committing suicide? Well, now that I've seen it, I can say it is much more than that.
Suicide (the film's original title was FinalCut.com, but Troma changed the title) follows a couple who have started a website making people an offer: that if someone wants to committ suicide, they will come and videotape it for them. The footage they shoot of sad, miserable folks who are ready to end it all is played, with the plot being moved on by segments of the couple speaking in their car before and after the deaths. However, the footage is presented as a seamless video shot, with no distinguishable cuts, making you wonder whether the special effects could possibly be real. Each sucidal victim has their own pre-death commentaries that take the film from disturbing, to depressing.
To sum it up, Suicide is an intense film to watch, because it is not only visually intense, but also emotionally. Within my first viewing of Suicide, I was cringing, on the verge of crying, and shocked at random intrevals throughout the whole film. It's great that Troma is willing to distribute this amazing German import, but unfortunate that the economic blacklisting in the media industry will keep the film from being appreciated by the cinema fans who would probably hail the film just as much as the indie crowd will. If you haven't already, this should be the next Troma movie you see.
