Review: The Toxic Avenger Part 3: The Last Temptation of Toxie
Reviewed by: Justin Channell

You know, it's really odd. When I first saw Toxic Avenger parts 2 and 3, I hated Part 2 and somewhat liked Part 3. However, months later, when I rewatched them, I found myself liking Part 2 more than Part 3. Sure, these sequels are far different from the style of the original, but they're pretty good, and should be seen by fans of the first film.

The Last Temptation Of Toxie starts off with a bang, featuring an awesome scene where the evil Apocalypse Inc.'s henchmen take on the local Tromaville video store. This is one of the highlights of the film and definately showcases Troma's anti-conglomorate beliefs. Following that, Toxie flashes back to explain how Apocalypse Inc. has made it back into Tromaville. Because Toxie was desperate for a job and money to pay for his blind girlfriend(and now fiancee) Claire's eye surgery. Because of this, he ends up taking a job for Apocalypse Inc. However, little does Toxie know that Apocalypse is back to doing horrible things to Tromaville and that his contract with the company is actually a contract with the devil himself!

As with Part 2(well, the unrated cut at least), The Last Temptation Of Toxie features some very impressive special effects and makeup. Some of the film's special effect highlights include Toxie's meltdown back into Melvin Junko(unfortunately the role is not reprised by Mark Torgl), the chairman's transformation into the devil, and a bad guy who gets his arm eaten by a VCR in the opening scene. However, the infamous Troma reverse motion effect is used a bit frequently, in scenes where it completely doesn't fit. These do add a bit of bizarre humor to the film, but overall, are a bit too cheap looking, even for Troma. One part of the film that really stands out are the

It's really odd how The Toxic Avenger Parts 2 and 3 have such different comedic styles, considering the fact that they were once one large film. The cinematography, cast, and other technical aspects are the same, obviously, but the comedy and such has seemed to change. Originally, I liked the less wacky style of The Last Temptation Of Toxie, but for some reason, I now find Part 2 to be better. One thing that's seemed to grow larger between the two films is Pheobe Legere's overacting. Regardless, if you liked Part 2, you'll probably find that The Last Temptation Of Toxie is a pretty fun film.

Is it as good as the first? Hell no. Is it as good as Part 2? Hell, it's technically the same film! The Toxic Avenger sequels, except for Citizen Toxie are a bit of a mixed bag and also love-it-or-hate-it outings. Recommended to fans of the other Toxie films, especially for it's historic value.
